The Computer Club is comprised of residents of the homes and apartments at The Lakes at Pointe West. The Club is relatively new, having had its first meeting on June 16, 2005. The interests and computer proficiency of its members vary widely from e-mail and games, to Genealogy, Finance, Publishing, Website creation, etc. But there are many topics, such as computer maintenance, firewalls, anti-virus programs, anti-spyware protection, operating system currency, etc., that provide a strong common interest.
The Club meets in the Library on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at 11 a.m. A typical meeting consists of assisting members with computer problems which can be handled in Q. & A. format or, when necessary, by visiting the member's residence for hands-on assistance.
Aside from helping residents with their computer problems, a founding purpose of the Club is to encourage residents to realize the enjoyment to be derived from owning a computer or using one of two computers in the Library, which are available to all residents for e-mailing their friends and family members, writing letters, exploring the World Wide Web, etc. But, of course, the ultimate is to have a personal computer available 24 hours a day in your own place of residence. On a restless night, a game of solitaire or e-mailing a friend could be just the solution you've been looking for.
